Growing Up: Why For the Cubs is Becoming Velle

Growing Up: Why For the Cubs is Becoming Velle - Velle

When I first launched For the Cubs, I thought I was solving a problem for kids.

As a foster parent wrestling with the reality of how trauma and stress live in the body, I was diving deep into nervous system research. I wanted to build gentle, grounding tools to help children feel safe. But then, the universe did what it always does when we think we have things completely figured out: it handed me a mirror.

Adults started buying Percy. Not for their kids, or their nieces, or their nephews. For themselves.

I started receiving beautifully raw, honest messages from people using our products to navigate panic attacks at their desks, soothe overstimulated minds after long days, and finally, after years of trying everything else, catch a full night’s sleep.

It was a profound lightbulb moment that forced me to look at my own life, my own history with anxiety, and the collective cultural hustle we have all forced ourselves into. We live in a society that treats busy-ness like a status symbol and exhaustion like a lifestyle. Productivity or bust.

But our challenges do not magically shrink just because we grow up. They expand. The truth is, there are no adult-sized tools for our adult-sized stress. We need a way to process physical stress just as much as kids do. To fully honor that truth, we needed a name that had the courage to grow up, too.

Introducing Velle

I am so incredibly proud to introduce you to our new name: Velle (pronounced vell).

Its linguistic roots mean “friend, be well.” If there was one thing I would want for this community, it’s that: to be well. When we look at what it actually means to "be well" in a culture of chronic stress, it is not about toxic positivity or a flawless self-care routine. It is about the permission to return to who we are underneath the stress. It means:

  • Getting a deep, restorative night’s sleep because your body finally feels safe enough to rest.

  • Feeling a steady sense of calm in the middle of a chaotic day, rather than just white-knuckling your way through it.

  • Having the capacity for more so we can actually show up for the things that make life meaningful: joy, presence, true connection, and belonging.

Functional Comforts, Big Impact

While the name on the packaging is changing, the heartbeat of this mission is not. We are entirely dedicated to creating functional comforts designed to actively ease physical stress and support emotional wellbeing. For adults.

So often, we think stress is just a mental game. We think anxiety starts in our heads with racing thoughts or a mind that refuses to shut down when our head hits the pillow. But the truth is, chronic stress lives in the body and the brain. It creeps into our shoulders, shortens our breath, and tightens our chest, keeping our nervous system on a high alert loop without us even realizing it.

That is where functional comforts come in. By giving your body a physical sensory signal of safety, you actively interrupt that stress cycle. When cortisol stops pumping and the body relaxes to allow serotonin production, the racing thoughts quiet down, and the deep sleep finally comes.

Human beings are neurobiologically wired for connection. We are constantly, unconsciously reading the room to see if we are safe. We have all felt the ripple effect of the old phrase, hurt people, hurt people. We know how quickly a bad vibe can take over a space.

But science tells us there is a beautiful inverse to that rule called co-regulation. When you choose to regulate your own nervous system, that calm expands. You change the literal energy of the room.

Calm people, calm people. Taking care of your nervous system is not a selfish act. It is a profound act of community care. When you find your steadiness, you unconsciously give everyone around you the permission to take a deep breath, too.

The Next Chapter

To our original For the Cubs community: thank you for having the courage to show me what this brand was always meant to be. And to everyone here for the first time: welcome. We are so glad you’re here.

Velle officially launches today. I am so excited to step into this next chapter with you, and to see just how far this collective calm can ripple out.

Be well,

Amy Vale
